An LEI transfer moves management responsibility for a Legal Entity Identifier from one LEI Issuer to another. Transferring your LEI does not change the LEI code itself or your underlying reference data. It only changes the issuer responsible for managing it changes.
Renewing vs. Transferring: What’s the Difference?
LEI renewal can only be completed by the LEI Issuer currently managing your LEI. If you want to renew with RapidLEI but your LEI is held with another issuer, you’ll need to transfer it first. Once the transfer is complete, RapidLEI handles all future renewals on your behalf.
How to Transfer Your LEI to RapidLEI
RapidLEI uses a streamlined transfer process that operates fully within GLEIF’s transfer rules.
Step 1: Create a RapidLEI account

Step 2: Initiate the import
Once logged in, click the Import LEI icon, or select the Import LEI(s) tab when starting a new application. Complete and submit the transfer and renewal application form.
Step 3: Authorise the transfer
The current account holder must confirm ownership and provide consent. This authorises RapidLEI to assume management responsibility.
Step 4 — Verification and activation
RapidLEI verifies the authorisation, processes the request, and the LEI becomes available in your RapidLEI account. We then automatically verify your Legal Entity Reference Data against the appropriate Business Registry and check for any changes within the Global LEI System (GLEIS).
